First, I recommend checking the gap on the points. Once set make sure they close when the crankshaft is turned.

Then check the air gap on the armature. It should be set at.012. If the engine still does not have spark I recommend removing the kill wire and checking for spark. This is usually a suction cup on a stick and lapping compound. To remove the valve, remove the cylinder head and the carburetor.
If the muffler is in the way of removing the crankcase breather, you have to remove it as well. Then remove the crankcase breather to access the valve springs and keepers. Use the valve spring compressor to compress the valve spring and remove keepers. Once the keepers are removed you can slide the valve out.
